Life on Board / Ship

The Viking Lomonosov

Not a complete rust bucket, the Viking Lomonosov (“Lo-mo-NOS-sof”) is very Cold War and without frills. Is it true that this ship once hauled around Soviet Union party officials on holiday? Almost all cabins are 90-square feet — welcome to your own private gulag. And the stairs — yipes! — are steep all the way from deck 1 to 4 (Main Deck to Sun Deck). What about an elevator? An elevawhat? A much more detailed photo exploration of the ship will be found here.

Hi Pete, Enjoying your comments,we agree on most. Now I know why you were the #1 shutterbug on board. Did you know that World Cup Soccar is coming to Dnipro…….ch. in 2012. Not the finals though . I hope caro isn’t still taking pics with a toothpick.

When the shutter button fell off her camera during the trip, Carol Anne began taking pictures by using twigs she would pick up from the ground. Arriving back in New York, we visited the Sony store in Manhattan and the personnel there gathered, then stared at her camera, her twig collection and at her as if she were a frog. Then they politely suggested she purchase a new camera which would be cheaper than fixing her old one (but not cheaper than continuing to use twigs, right?) which reluctantly she did.

So no, Patrick, she is no longer ferreting twigs like elderly ladies assembling wood for fire starers. I note that, like me, you made no attempt to spell Deniprowhateveritis either.
